Tykes Gardening & Nutrition Classes

In this 14 week class students will learn how to grow their own veggies from seed and maintain their own garden. We provide seeds, transplants, containers, worksheets, recipes, charts, soil, and most importantly self sustainability in our Container Gardening Class. By class end your student will have their own growing garden at home! That’s right- they keep everything they grow and transplant in our class! Our kiddos learn why they grow what they grow and what makes it nutritious. And not only will they learn how to grow it, but also how to maintain, harvest and even sell their produce!
Little Lab, Big Experiments

Little Lab, Big Experiments is an introductory science class where students will be doing real experiments to engage and teach them age appropriate scientific principles. The class will be divided into 4 groups: Physics, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology. The experiments will be hands on and designed to be fun and accessible. Some of the experiments will include: Leaf Impressions, Wormbox, Compass/Magnets & Ferrofluids, Static Electricity, Play-Doh Watercycle, Gravity, Balloon racers & airplanes, Bubbles, Gas & ice & states of matter, Sound & light, Mixing colors, Invisible Ink, Non-Newtonian fluids & slime. All of our experiments reinforce the concept of the day using memorable and interactive teaching techniques.
P.E. Fundamentals
Tuition: $260
Grades: K - 12th
Students will work on coordination, athleticism, strength and conditioning by working on the individual skills in various sports throughout the year. Sports throughout the year can include pickle ball, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, track & field, fencing, and some recreational games. Sports practiced will be determined by the facilities available at the class site. Students all work on their individual skills in small groups broken down by age and skill level, so all ages can work in the same class.
Archery Fantasy
Tuition: $280
Grades: 1st - 5th
Fantasy Classes are an intro to archery class using real bows designed for 6 to 11-year-old students. The classes focus on teaching safety and core archery techniques all while keeping energy high and immersive using a Fantasy story and plot to reinforce each new skill taught. Students will progress through an exciting original Archery Champs story as well as earn achievements based on behavior and skill using the Archery Champs Phoenix Feather system.
IEW Structure and Imagination (Creative Writing)

The Institute for Excellence in Writing is a program that teaches students how to write with structure and style. In this IEW class ‘Structure and Imagination,’ students will learn basics in writing while entering a world of their own imagination. By being immersed in an atmosphere that nurtures creativity, students will begin to write scenes and stories from a world of their own.
Everything Minecraft

Students will investigate the world of Minecraft and learn real world applications like electricity, architecture, ecology, teamwork and more! This class is computer based. All Computer will be provided students only need a smile for class!
Playful Social Studies

Rhythm Jamboree
Tuition: $200
Grades: PreK-1st Grade
Rhythm Jamboree: This is an interactive class where kids will learn the basics of rhythm while playing and singing songs together. By the end of this class, kids will have experienced various percussion instruments and other rhythmic instruments. They will also be introduced to our friend - The Music Whale. The Music Whale will accompany us as we learn our Jamboree song book and store our instruments when our class is over.
Mid Age Gardening & Nutrition Classes

Aviation Science Semester 1
Tuition: $440
Grades: 4th - 12th
This exciting class will focus on the science and history of many areas of aviation. We will do segments on aerodynamics, airframes, engines, air space structure, and aircraft/aviation history. Included will be a field trip to an aviation museum, and outside field trips flying radio control airplanes. Class will meet together to maximize our numbers and efficiency, but there will be different curriculum and classroom tests for grades 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12. The instructor, Todd Nash, has 1000+ hours of flight time in the F-18 Hornet in the Marine Corps, and hundreds of hours in light civil planes as well. Todd also ran airfields in the Marine Corps, and has run over 20 air shows all over the world. His extensive background in the aviation world, both civilian and military (9 years as an officer in the Marine Corps) gives him the ideal background to share the aviation world with your students.
Aviation Careers Semester 2
Grades: 4th - 12th
This exciting class will teach students about the many different careers in the aviation world. Many people think flying in the airlines is the only career in aviation, but there are many more. Students will learn about the FAA, air traffic control, aviation mechanic, aerodynamic engineering and aircraft construction, airfield operations, as well as pilot careers. Field trips will include a trip to a nearby airport, possibly a trip to a military air station to learn about military aviation careers, and a trip to civil airport for a flight in a light civil aircraft!! Yes, students will have their hands on the controls!! (With an instructor pilot in control of the airplane.) Class will meet together to maximize our numbers and efficiency, but there will be different curriculum and classroom tests for grades 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12.

Wood Working, Furniture Building
Tuition: $440
Grades: 4th - 12th
In this class, students will build a project of their own choosing from raw lumber. This is not “kit assembly” – students will use all the power and hand tools needed to start with a raw piece of lumber and build a (small) piece of furniture. Students in Todd’s woodworking classes have built many projects including a bookshelf, desk, potting table, art box, night stand, utility tables & shelves, toy horse, and much more! Pictures of many of the projects are available on Todd’s website at www.CaliforniaAthletics.com. Todd has many years of construction experience, having built many large pieces of furniture, built ins in his house, and done general construction.
Archery Skills and Games
Tuition: $280
Grades: 5th - 12th
Skills and games Classes are designed to teach beginner to intermediate archers from ages 11 and up. Classes will teach archery fundamentals with a fun and exciting instructor who will seek to teach the whole class as well as teach each student on an individual level. The class will consist of learning a archery technique and class will end with a exhilarating archery game based on the taught and practiced technique.
Rocket Physics and Orbital Mechanics
Tuition: $250
Grades: 5th - 12th
In this out of this world adventure, students will be engineering and flying their own space crafts while learning the basic physics of space flight as well as orbital mechanics using the NASA Endorsed computer simulator Kerbal Space Program. Over the course of the semester, students will be guided to create their own crafts to achieve each of the most historic flights of the American NASA program. The semester will all build up to the last mission of designing, constructing, and flying a mission to get their own ship to the moon and back.
Little Planet Big Solar System(Astronomy)
Tuition: $250
Grades: 1st-4th
The classes will focus on the different elements present in our solar system, including the Sun, planets, dwarf planets, and other objects like asteroids and comets. Students will utilize the provided computers as well as real world games and experiments. Each student will have the opportunity to plan and present a mission to one of the planets or celestial objects where they will have to think through and develop ideas on how to successfully achieve their goals.
Creative Writing Living The Hero’s Journey
Tuition: $250
Grades: 5th - 12th
In this epic journey of myth, fantasy, and sci fi, students will harness their creative writing skills by being placed inside the story using various roll playing games such as The lord of the rings “The One Ring Role Playing Game” as well as the Star Wars version “Force and Destiny”. Students will not just tell and write stories but will live them giving them a inside out perspective of the monomyth cycle of the hero’s journey. Students will be given writing prompts that engage their creative and critical thinking skills to help them create realistic characters and thrilling dramatic scenes. The semester will build up to a student’s final project where they will have to write the resolution to a grand climax from one of the groups previous stories.
Lego STEAM

Lego students will use Legos to Practice SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART and MATH. Through discovery based learning, students carry out experiments, engage in group activities,create artistic masterpieces, creatively practice their math skills and learn new technologies. Our programs are full STEAM ahead, with work samples every week.

Cooking Class the Homeschool Way! Kids love to cook, taste and explore their palates and we love to show them how to do that and share their culinary successes with their families! Kids get to fiddle with all of the fun kitchen appliances and utensils - made especially for them. Colorful, smaller and just plain old fun! Class comes with menu, recipes, nutritional info and where to buy select items! Every recipe choice was developed specifically for kiddos to cook \"on the go\". No need for the oven or stove. All items are made with a cooking appliances you can plug in and let them explore the wonders of cooking ANYWHERE! Any vegetarians kiddos joining us- Wonderful! Language Arts B (Core)

This Language Arts class follows California Common Core State Standards for 2nd and 3rd graders. With a primary focus on teaching the basics in writing, spelling, vocabulary, and drilling crucial phonetics (such as digraphs and diphthongs), students will increase their language, reading, and writing skills. This class is taught by Brittney Webber, graduate of Humboldt State with her Bachelors in English Teaching Language Arts. *This is an hour long class taught both Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Language Arts C (Core)

This Language Arts class follows California Common Core State Standards for 4th and 5th graders. This class aims to accelerate students writing skills through various book reports and essays. Students will also dive into close reading analysis that will help develop critical thinking skills and text analysis. This class is taught by Brittney Webber, graduate of Humboldt State with her BA in English Teaching Language Arts. *This is an hour long class taught both Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Piano/Keyboard and Music Basics
Tuition $200
Grades 1st-6th
This class will introduce the children to the basics of music theory and reading music. The kids will also learn the basics of how to play piano. We will learn simple songs together. My hope is that by the end of the semester the kids will have enough of a basis in music to take their knowledge and be able to pursue further instruction in piano or any other instrument of their choosing. *students will need their own keyboard for class.
